Yup. That’s it.
That’s my secret.
I pretend I am a badass, and therefore I am.
But how does that work?, you ask.
Simply, my friend. You walk around like you own the world. People will see you and believe that you do, in fact, own the world. Seeing their reaction, you will believe you do, in fact, own the world.
World domination in one easy step, ladies and gentlemen.
That isn’t to say you won’t have off days. For a circus girl, I have a lot of off day between working two jobs, keeping the bills paid without resorting to the dark side of burlesque, and trying to maintain what little sanity I have left these days. What works for me?
1) Breathing. Calming down is important. You can’t own the world if you’re wound up.
2) Makeup. Yes. Dolling yourself up once in a while is perfectly acceptable and you should take pride in yourself, whether it’s a red lipstick or mineral powder. When you feel wonderful, people see your outer hottie, and the inner hottie.
3) Do something for yourself.
4) Think of how far you’ve come. Maybe they’re baby steps, but progress is progress.
The key is to not be afraid to reach for what you want and take it.
Tomorrow afternoon I have my very first official public performance at the wonderful FoxTale Book Shoppe in Woodstock, Ga. I’ll be rocking the contact juggling and maybe some poi work for their book club, who will be discussing none other than the wonderful “The Night Circus.” This will be followed hopefully by some vague sort of lunch and Circus Athena, in Athens, Ga. Come out and support your local talent and you’re sure to be rewarded!
